The Best Sunrise Elopement Locations in Yosemite

If you're searching for the best sunrise elopement locations in Yosemite, you're already thinking in the right direction. While Yosemite is beautiful at any time of day, sunrise offers quieter trails, fewer crowds, and some of the softest light you'll see in the park.

As a Yosemite elopement photographer, I often recommend sunrise ceremonies to couples who want their experience to feel more private. Yosemite National Park is one of the most visited national parks in the country, but sunrise has a way of making even the most popular locations feel peaceful.

Whether you're dreaming of mountain views, rivers, waterfalls, or a secluded forest setting, here are some of my favorite sunrise elopement locations in Yosemite!

Bride and groom at sunrise at Taft Point

Glacier Point

If I had to choose one location that perfectly represents Yosemite, Glacier Point would be near the top of the list. The views stretch across Yosemite Valley with Half Dome standing prominently in the distance. At sunrise, the first light slowly reaches the granite cliffs and creates a beautiful glow!

Glacier Point is one of the most popular ceremony locations in Yosemite, which is exactly why I love it at sunrise. You get the iconic views without the crowds that typically arrive later in the day.

Priscilla and Seth chose Glacier Point for their wedding ceremony, and it was the perfect setting for their intimate celebration. The early morning light, cool mountain air, and sweeping views created an unforgettable start to their wedding day. Check out more photos from their elopement here!

Best for: Couples wanting iconic Yosemite views and a ceremony overlooking Half Dome

Best season: Summer through fall when Glacier Point Road is open

Keep in mind: This is one of Yosemite's most popular locations, which makes sunrise the best time for a more intimate experience.

Cathedral Beach

Cathedral Beach is one of those locations that feels peaceful no matter how many times I visit. The views of El Capitan rising above the Merced River are iconic Yosemite. On calm mornings, you can often see beautiful reflections in the water that make the scenery feel even more dramatic.

One of the reasons I love Cathedral Beach is how immersive it feels. Instead of standing at a viewpoint looking out, you're surrounded by the landscape. The river, trees, and granite cliffs all come together to create a setting that feels distinctly Yosemite.

Best for: Couples wanting river views, El Capitan, and a peaceful atmosphere

Best season: Spring through fall, especially when water levels create reflections in the Merced River

Keep in mind: Water levels change throughout the year, so the appearance of the beach can vary seasonally

Cascades Picnic Area

Cascades Picnic Area is one of Yosemite's hidden gems. While many couples focus on the more famous locations, this spot offers a completely different experience. It sits along the river and is surrounded by forest, creating a setting that feels private and tucked away from the busier areas of Yosemite Valley.

Tiffany and Jon celebrated part of their wedding day here, and it was easy to see why they chose it. The combination of water views and towering trees creates a peaceful atmosphere that works beautifully for intimate ceremonies. See more of their elopement in this blog post!

Best for: Couples wanting privacy and a mix of forest and river scenery

Best season: Spring and early summer when the river is flowing strongest

Keep in mind: One of the quieter ceremony locations in Yosemite, making it a great option for couples wanting fewer people around

Sentinel Beach Picnic Area

For couples who love the Merced River, Sentinel Beach Picnic Area is another beautiful option! This location offers easy river access along with views of Yosemite's surrounding granite cliffs. The water often reflects the morning light, which creates a calm and romantic atmosphere for ceremonies.

One thing I love about this area is how accessible it feels. You can enjoy beautiful scenery without needing to commit to a hike, making it a great choice for couples with guests.

Best for: Couples wanting riverfront views with easy access

Best season: Spring through fall

Keep in mind: This location works especially well for couples bringing family members or guests of varying mobility levels.

Tenaya Lake Beach

Tenaya Lake feels completely different from Yosemite Valley! Located along Tioga Road, this alpine lake has crystal-clear water, sandy beaches, and mountain views in every direction. It almost feels like a completely different national park.

Because of its higher elevation, Tenaya Lake is only accessible seasonally once Tioga Road opens for the year. When conditions allow, it can be an incredible location for adventurous couples.

One of my favorite things about Tenaya Lake is the flexibility it offers. You can exchange vows by the water, enjoy a lakeside picnic, or spend part of your day paddle boarding or kayaking together afterward. For couples wanting a full-day adventure experience, this location has so much potential.

Best for: Adventurous couples wanting more than just a ceremony

Best season: Mid-summer through early fall after Tioga Road opens

Keep in mind: Access depends entirely on seasonal road openings and snow conditions

Chilnualna Falls Trailhead Parking Area

Located in Wawona, Chilnualna Falls Trailhead is a ceremony location often overlooked by couples planning Yosemite elopements. That is exactly why I wanted to include it!

While it doesn't offer the dramatic cliff views that some other spots are known for, it provides something many couples are looking for… privacy. The surrounding forest creates a quiet setting that feels removed from the busier parts of the park. If you're envisioning an intimate ceremony surrounded by trees without many people nearby, this location is worth considering.

Best for: Couples prioritizing privacy and a forest setting

Best season: Spring through fall

Keep in mind: This location is often overlooked, which means it can feel much quieter than Yosemite Valley ceremony sites.

Bridalveil Fall

For couples dreaming of waterfall views, Bridalveil Fall is an incredible sunrise ceremony location! There is something special about exchanging vows with one of Yosemite's most famous waterfalls in the background. During peak waterfall season, the flow can be incredibly powerful and dramatic.

The mist, sound of rushing water, and surrounding cliffs create an experience that feels uniquely Yosemite. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that waterfalls can be loud. Depending on the time of year and water levels, hearing one another during the ceremony may require speaking a little louder than usual.

Best for: Couples wanting a waterfall backdrop for their ceremony

Best season: Spring when water flow is strongest

Keep in mind: The waterfall can be very loud during peak runoff, especially in late spring and early summer

Smaller Elopements Have Even More Flexibility

One thing many couples don't realize is that if your ceremony has fewer than 11 people, your options expand significantly. With the exception of protected meadows and sensitive riparian areas, smaller ceremonies have access to many additional locations throughout Yosemite National Park. This flexibility opens up opportunities for quieter overlooks, tucked-away forest locations, and hidden gems that larger groups may not be able to use.

Some of my favorites for elopements with just the couple are:

Tunnel View

If you've ever seen a postcard from Yosemite, there's a good chance it was taken from Tunnel View. This viewpoint gives you one of the most iconic panoramas in the entire park. From here, you can see El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall all in one view. At sunrise, the valley slowly fills with light while the cliffs begin to glow.

One of my favorite things about Tunnel View is how accessible it is. You get a huge payoff without needing to hike, which makes it a great option for couples who want epic scenery while keeping logistics simple.

Evan and Samantha exchanged private vows at Tunnel View, and it felt incredibly intimate despite being one of Yosemite's most recognizable locations. Sunrise helped create that quieter atmosphere and gave them time to enjoy the moment together before visitors arrived later in the morning.

Best for: Couples wanting Yosemite's most iconic valley view

Best season: Year-round

Keep in mind: This is a very popular location, so sunrise offers the best chance for a more private experience

Taft Point

For adventurous couples, Taft Point is one of the most unforgettable locations in Yosemite.

Unlike Glacier Point, which is easily accessible by car, Taft Point requires a short hike to reach. The effort is absolutely worth it. The dramatic cliff edges, expansive valley views, and unique rock formations make it feel wild and adventurous in a way that few Yosemite locations can match.

I photographed Evan and Samantha's portraits here, and the views never get old. Standing on the edge of the valley while watching the light move across the granite cliffs feels like experiencing Yosemite at its most dramatic.

While I personally love Taft Point at sunset, sunrise can also be beautiful for couples wanting fewer people on the trail and a quieter experience overall.

Best for: Adventurous couples who don't mind a short hike for incredible views

Best season: Summer through fall when Glacier Point Road is open

Keep in mind: You'll need to hike to reach the viewpoint, so comfortable shoes and a little flexibility are important
