An Intimate Yosemite Elopement at Cascades Picnic Area
If you're dreaming of an intimate way to get married, Jon and Tiffany’s intimate Yosemite wedding is the perfect inspiration. As a Yosemite elopement photographer, I’ve explored countless spots throughout the park, but Cascades Picnic Area remains one of the most underrated and magical locations for couples who want a secluded ceremony.
Why Jon & Tiffany Chose to Elope in Yosemite National Park
Jon and Tiffany knew they didn’t want a traditional wedding. They wanted something slower, quieter, something that actually felt like them. With just eight of their closest family members by their side, they chose to elope in Yosemite National Park and exchanged their vows as the sun rose behind Half Dome.
They wanted a ceremony that was completely private, and that’s exactly what the Cascades Picnic Area gave them. Not a single tourist in sight, just the sound of the Merced River flowing nearby and the soft morning light breaking through the trees! Talk about magic?!
“You’re an angel 🥹🥹♥️♥️ literally crying looking at them all Thank you so so much!!! The black and white look like their straight out of an anthro catalog 🥲””
A Post-Ceremony Brunch to Celebrate
After the ceremony, Jon and Tiffany had at little brunch picnic back at the Cascades Picnic Area. With a simple table setup surrounded by towering trees and the sound of the river nearby, it was sweet and inmate. Fresh fruit and champagne to toast their new chapter!! There was so much joy in the simplicity.
Best Elopement Locations in Yosemite: Why Cascades Picnic Area is a Hidden Gem
While spots like Glacier Point and Taft Point often steal the spotlight, Cascades Picnic Area is truly one of the best Yosemite elopement locations, especially if you’re looking for privacy.
Tucked just off the road but easy to access, it offers views of the river, forested, and even a peek at Half Dome in the distance if you catch it at the right time of day! It’s quiet and perfect for intimate weddings or micro ceremonies. If you're planning a Yosemite wedding and want to skip the crowds, this is your place.
Exploring Yosemite Valley After the Ceremony
After their quiet ceremony, we packed up and made our way through some of the most iconic views in Yosemite Valley. We stopped at Tunnel View, how could we not?! And then continued to explore the meadows and the Yosemite Chapel. I always love including a shot at the chapel, not only because it’s beautiful, but because it’s the oldest building in Yosemite and holds so much history.
One of my favorite details from their day was hidden inside Jon’s suit jacket. Their dog, Indie, means the absolute world to them. Unfortunately, pets aren't allowed during Yosemite wedding ceremonies due to park restrictions. But Indie was there in spirit, with a sweet tribute sewn into the lining of Jon’s suit. It was such a peronal touch that made their elopement even more meaningful.
Escaping the Crowds at Glacier Point: A Secret Spot for them!
After soaking in the beauty of Yosemite Valley, we made our way to Glacier Point, a classic for a reason! Although it is super touristy, it is one of my FAVORITE spots that require no hiking! The views are unreal, but by the time we arrived, it was packed. Midday at Glacier Point tends to draw big crowds, which can make it hard to have a quiet moment. We got an iconic shot at the rock, but then I led Jon and Tiffany to one of my secret spots just beyond the main overlook. It’s a little corner I’ve scouted over the years, away from the crowds, but with the same jaw-dropping views. Knowing the park inside and out lets me give couples these one-of-a-kind experiences!
